Why Accountants Should Blog for Business:

Welcome Back!

I know a lot of Accountants (myself included) have taken a few days of R&R to get out of the office, and hopefully have a little fun in the sun.

So now it's time to get back to the work of increasing your revenue.

You probably know that on-line visibility is increasingly important.

Here's today's tip:
(this is adapted from an upcoming article to be published in Practical Accountant Magazine)

Blogging for Business

A Blog (short for WebLog) is an easy to use tool for marketing your firm on-line. Blogs are very popular in the legal profession, but accountants have been slow to adopt this great tool.

Blogging will help you improve your firms visibility on the Internet. Search engines (like Google & Yahoo) love blogs because they provide timely, relevant content.

Blogs are both a great way to position your firm in a regional market, or a specific niche.

Reed Tinsley, CPA of Houston has been blogging since July of 2007. Tinsley is an accountant and business advisor to physicians and medical practices.

Tinsley regularly blogs about helpful accounting tips, medical practice tips, and general information. As a result, his firm's visibility has increased and he now has top search rankings on Google.

Reed said:"I now get most of my new business from my website. I never thought I would see it happen in a million years, but my early investment and continued commitment to the website has in fact paid off."

Reed continues: "Because of increased readership, it has influended the search engine optimization rankings. For example, if you Google "physician CPA" my website comes up first."

Here are some tips about starting a blog:

1. Your blog should be hosted within your site. For example: www.YourFirm.com/blog
2. Software: Free is good...consider Wordpress (free) or Typepad ($4.95 / month & up.) There are other options too, just search for "blog software."
3. Establish a regular posting schedule. You can start with posting once a week; but make it realistic
4. Select a topic: An easy way is to simply answer questions you are asked on a regular basis

Keep at it! Consistency is key to improving your search rank, and your position online.

In fact, many of the readers of these tips found about about me by visiting my blog at: http://www.cpamarketingcenter.com/blog

And the blog has helped me leap ahead of other, longer established players in the practice development market.

Blogs have helped many people position themselves on the internet.
